JESSICA CHEN, LAC., DAOM
Dr. Jessica Chen is a Licensed Acupuncturist and Doctor of Oriental Reproductive Medicine. Dr. Chen earned both her Masters and Doctoral degrees at Yo San University of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), and her Bachelors in Psychology from Boston University. Dr. Chen has also spent t ime studying TCM at several hospitals in Taipei, Taiwan, her hometown.
Dr. Chen has been at Tao of Wellness since 2005, practicing under the mentorship of Drs. Daoshing and Mao Shing Ni. In 2010, Dr. Chen co-authored the book Sitting Moon with Dr. Daoshing Ni to bring awareness and valuable information about how a new mother must be caned for in the month after giving birth. Dr. Chen is certified in Chinese nutrition and provides nutritional counseling to her patients in pursuit of healthier living. She is also a member of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine. She is now practicing as a senior associate at The Tao of Wellness in Santa Monica, California.
ALBERT VACA, MATCM, LAC.
Albert Vaca, L.Ac., California Board Licensed Acupuncturist, received his Master’s degree in Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine from Yo San University. Having a background in martial arts and competitive sports, he was drawn to Sports Medicine and orthopedics. He completed a postgraduate training in acupuncture orthopedics at Cedars Sinai Hospital, and furthered his training by becoming certified as an Acupuncture Orthopedic Specialist from the Academy of Orthopedic Acupuncture.
Albert is a firm believer in integrative healthcare and has worked in women’s health, internal medicine and pediatrics with other medical specialists at the Venice Family Clinic and Being Alive HIV clinic. An educator at heart, he served as Dean of Clinical Education at Yo San University where he enjoyed sharing his clinical knowledge with interns. He is also fluent in Spanish. Albert is dedicated to personal development and practices meditation and tai chi regularly. He hopes to empower patients at The Tao of Wellness with his knowledge, and to help them activate their innate restorative abilities that promote healing and well-being.
J. MATTHEW BRAND, MATCM, LAC.
J. Matthew Brand, L.Ac. is a California Board Licensed Acupuncturist. He obtained his undergraduate degree at UC Santa Cruz before completing his Master’s degree in Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine at Yo San University. A lifelong athlete, Matthew has been steeped in martial arts for over 15 years, particularly with Xing Yi, Ba Gua and Tai Chi. As a result, professionally, he has been specializing in orthopedic medicine and sports injury. However, after years of volunteer work with US veterans, addressing a myriad of psycho-emotional and physical issues, Matthew has come to appreciate and approach patients in the most holistic way possible. He is equally adept in gynecology, pediatrics and gastroenterology as he is with muscle sprains and strains.
Prior to joining Tao of Wellness, Matthew was the Assistant Academic Dean, Clinic Herbalist and Faculty at Yo San University. Matthew hopes to bring Tao of Wellness patients the most comprehensive treatments possible, and to empower their lives with effective daily practices.
SALLY GOLUBOFF, MATCM, LAC.
Sally Goluboff received a Master’s Degree in Traditional Chinese Medicine from Yo San University. She completed a residency program at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, where she treated pediatric patients with chronic pain conditions as well as autoimmune diseases. Sally also completed an externship program at Venice Family Clinic, which is a multidisciplinary medical clinic in Los Angeles that serves low-income residents. Sally enjoys working in an integrative setting and treating patients of all ages. She is also passionate about treating women’s health and fertility. Before she began her studies in Chinese Medicine, Sally had experience in education at a large university campus, and program management for a private tutoring company. She speaks four languages and has traveled all over the world. She has lived in five countries and spent a year in Japan teaching conversational English to high school students. Prior to being awarded the Tao of Wellness Fellowship, she was the Assistant Academic Dean at Yo San University. In her role as Assistant Dean she was able to advise students and help them create an academic plan to graduate successfully with a Master’s Degree in Traditional Chinese Medicine.
KUMIKO YAMAMOTO, LAC.
Kumiko grew up in Japan and is a 3rd generation acupuncturist in her family. She attended and graduated with the highest honors from Yo San University of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), where she received her Masters degree. With an interest in women’s health and pediatric care, Kumiko completed an intensive residency in TCM Gynecology and Reproductive Medicine at Sichuan Hospital in China as well as an internship at Children’s Hospital L.A. Her extensive training also includes Integrative Oncology at Premiere Oncology in Santa Monica, California and Sichuan Hospital in China. Kumiko is a certified instructor in tai chi and chi gong. Besides offering services in acupuncture, tuina, herbal and nutrition therapies, she also teaches prescriptive mind-body exercises (chi gong) as well as lnfiniChi energy healing. Kumiko has lectured at various venues including UCLA AIDS Awareness, Global Sound Conference, and Abbot Kinney Festival She is a recurring instructor at the Tao of Wellness detox retreats, and has authored several workbooks for students of acupuncture and Chinese medicine.
FRANCES LAM, MATCM, LAC.
Frances Lam L.Ac., is a California State Board licensed acupuncturist. After earning her Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration from California State University, Fullerton, she followed her passion for health and wellness to study at Yo San University in Los Angeles, where she received her Master’s of Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine, graduating with Honors. Completing a clinical internship at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, and Venice Family Clinic, her specialty training included musculoskeletal/orthopedics, rheumatology, oncology, complex regional pain syndrome and neurological conditions. With a background in swimming and surfing, Frances learned firsthand how important nutrition, daily activity and rest are for maintaining optimal health. She also holds certification as a fitness specialist from Irvine Valley College and as an orthopedic exercise and fitness nutrition specialist from the American Council on Exercise (ACE). Since she became a licensed acupuncturist in 2009, Frances had been working in corporate wellness, investigating ways to help people understand the various components that can contribute to a healthy lifestyle and how to prevent the onset of chronic disease. Her practice also includes women’s health, internal and anti-aging medicine.
JING CHEN, DAOM, LAC., DIPL.O.M., FABORM
After graduating from MIT with a Bachelor of Science in biology, Dr. Jing Chen worked as a biology research fellow, and later went on to work in the software industry. She earned a Masters degree in Oriental Medicine, graduating Summa Cum Laude from Emperors College, and most recently received her Doctoral degree from Yo San University, where she specialized in Oriental Reproductive Medicine. Dr. Jing Chen’s training also includes an intensive externship at Jiang Xi University in Nan Chang, China, as well as a year-long fellowship at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. As part of her Masters program, she also interned at UCLA’s Arthur Ashe Student Health and Wellness Center, and the Saban Free Clinic in West Hollywood. Since she became a Licensed Acupuncturist in 2008, Dr. Jing Chen has had a diverse range of experiences, including working in an integrative internal medicine clinic, providing Chinese Medicine support in western fertility clinics, and working as an acupuncturist on luxury cruise ships. Dr. Jing Chen is committed to understanding the needs of each patient in order to help them achieve their individual goals. She provides effective, compassionate care while empowering patients with the tools they need to reach and maintain a state of balance and optimal health.
